How to choose a good oil filter?

When choosing oil purifier equipment, we need to collect this information:


Equipment information: equipment name, equipment type and ID, equipment placement, operating temperature, whether the equipment has special requirements (explosion-proof, outdoor use, whether the surrounding environment is high/low temperature, etc.), whether the equipment is used continuously for 24 hours, and other notes.


Oil information: type of oil to be purifiered, how much oil needs to be purifiered (volume), oil viscosity, required flow rate, lubricant 

addition date, what are the main existing pollutants in the oil, how long will the oil become dirty (time from use to unqualified cleanliness), whether the lubricant to be treated has special requirements such as corrosiveness (whether acid value neutralization


treatment is required, whether there is severe oxidation of the oil, or whether there are color treatment requirements), other pollutants that may be mixed in the oil, current oil ISO cleanliness index, oil ISO cleanliness target (select filtration accuracy), current water content in the oil, and expected water content. When selecting a lubricating oil purifier, the above information is a factor to be considered. It is recommended to list it in a table and consult with the oil purifier supplier through the table to find a suitable oil purifier.


After collecting this information, we will select the appropriate oil purifier equipment according to these conditions and needs.


1. Oil purifier equipment that relies on purifier media for filtration

The most common type of purifier relies on purifier media for filtration, which is relatively simple to use and maintain;

Applicable occasions: It is suitable for the filtration of hydraulic oil, gear oil, turbine oil (turbine oil, gas turbine oil, water turbine oil) and other general lubricating oils, fuel oil and other oils;


Disadvantages: The following situations are not applicable: when a large amount of water is mixed in the oil, exceeding the bearing capacity of the purifier medium; when the oil contains special additives, it may be removed by the purifier element, such as lubricating oil with solid additives; high viscosity oil (ISO VG680 and above); oil temperature is higher than 120℃.


2. Magnetic purifier

Applicable occasions: It is suitable for all oils and liquids, and adsorbs iron impurities such as iron slag and iron filings.

Disadvantages: cannot remove other impurities


3. Coagulation purifier

It is simple to use and maintain, but the use conditions will affect the performance of the purifier element. The temperature, flow rate and oil type will affect the purifiering effect. You must clarify these issues before choosing


Applicable occasions: turbine oil (turbine oil, gas turbine oil, turbine oil) using API Class I mineral base oil, turbine oil with oil-water separation performance, fuel oil


Not applicable to: hydraulic oil, base oil produced using new refining technology such as turbine oil made from API Class II mineral base oil, oil with poor water separation performance


4. Centrifugal oil purifier equipment

Operation and maintenance are relatively troublesome


Applicable occasions: hydraulic oil, gear oil, turbine oil (turbine oil, gas turbine oil, turbine oil) and other general lubricating oils, fuel oil

Disadvantages: poor purifiering effect of high-viscosity oil, general separation effect of solid impurities, and relatively complicated operation and use


5. Vacuum oil purifier equipment

The operation is complicated and requires operation training, but maintenance is simple. The water removal effect is very good, even the water dissolved in the oil can be removed. This type of oil purifier equipment is generally equipped with purifier media to help purifier other impurities;


Applicable occasions: hydraulic oil, gear oil and other general lubricating oils, turbine oil (turbine oil, gas turbine oil, turbine oil), applicable to all types of base oils.

Disadvantages: Not suitable for high viscosity oil (ISO VG 680 and above); if water contamination is not the main problem, there is no need to use this type of oil purifier.
