The role of transformer oil degassing device

Time:2025-06-27 11:45:54  Reading volume:

The primary function of the transformer oil degassing device is to remove dissolved gases (such as oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, methane, and acetylene) and trace moisture from the transformer oil, thereby restoring the insulation performance and chemical stability of the oil and ensuring the safe operation of the transformer. Its specific functions include:

1. Improve insulation performance

The gas dissolved in the oil will reduce its dielectric strength. After degassing, the insulation capacity of the oil can be restored, reducing the risk of partial discharge or breakdown.

2. Prevent oil quality deterioration

Oxygen and moisture will accelerate the aging of the oil, leading to an increase in acid value and the formation of sludge. The degassing device extends the service life of the oil by removing these impurities.

3. Eliminate fault gas

Internal faults of the transformer (such as overheating or arcing) may produce flammable gases such as hydrogen and methane. The degassing device can remove these gases to avoid explosion hazards.

4. Maintain the internal pressure balance of the transformer

Excessive gas accumulation may cause abnormal internal pressure of the transformer. After degassing, the thermal expansion and contraction stability of the oil can be maintained.

5. Auxiliary fault diagnosis

By analyzing the gas composition (such as dissolved gas analysis DGA), the potential faults inside the transformer (such as partial discharge, overheating, etc.) can be determined.

Common degassing methods

- Vacuum degassing: separation of gas from oil under negative pressure.

- Thin film degassing: selective separation of gas using a breathable membrane.

- Ultrasonic degassing: promotes gas release through the cavitation effect.

Degassing devices are usually used in transformer maintenance, new oil treatment, or online monitoring systems, and are one of the key equipment for maintaining the health of power equipment.
